The term ‘Islamophobia’ was introduced to Western speech in the 1970s by Iranian fundamentalists, designed specifically to match ‘antisemitism’ for prejudice against Jews. I denies the reality of an Islamic religious offensive in Europe, and implicitly justify it, and it attacks all secularism by equating it with bigotry.
A phobia is an irrational fear, and what the term tacitly conveys is that any fear of Islam is irrational. But mostly, it’s designed to shut you up, to make any criticism of Islam into hate speech, equivalent to open racism, homophobia etc..
Anyone who uses the term to mean ‘anti-Muslim prejudice’ (which is a real thing, and doesn’t need any other label) is a gullible, virtue-signalling tool, conniving with an extremist agenda to pre-empt all secularism, and any mention of Islamic totalitarianism.
Hand- wringing wishy washy wets are to blame. Freedom of speech basically allows you to back up your statements with facts…..if you can of course. I got into a furious argument with a bunch of (humanities) students when I said that if you apply occams razor to any religious claim its game.over. And also Hitchens Razor to double down on the witless moronic egregious religious LIES….
I prefer to replace the term “anti-semitism” with “Judeophobia”: partly to echo “Islamophobia”; partly because “anti-semitism”, if taken at face value, means against both Jews and Arabs; and partly because the term “anti-semitism” was invented by 19th-century Judeophobes as a pseudo-scientific way to not sound like religious bigots.
The Palestinians are also semites. DNA testing shows there is no genetic difference between Jews and Arabs. Judaism is entirely cultural and linguistic.

The Greek-derived affix for “hatred” is “μισο-” or “μισ-” (“miso-” or “mis-“), and usually appears as a prefix, as in “misogynist” or “misanthrope”. However, “misislamism” seems a bit clumsy.
