I think there’s a typo in panel 2 (“a nice right to it”). Let that raga drop!
Second panel – “right” should be “ring”.
Wow, Mo’s ears blew steam right through his turban. Don’t recall ever seeing that before!
Thank you Jobar and Eric for the typo alert!
Steam ears has never happened before. Mo has never been so angry!
One might say he’s raving mad. Oh wait.
I wondered if ‘sharif’ was in any way related to ‘sheriff’.
Apparently not; the Arabic means ‘honor, noble’ while the English word comes from ‘shire reeve’. Innaresting.
I think that the Caped Crucader recorded the church organ for Yes’ sublime track “Awaken” in a swiss church…
Doing the Texas two-step under the disco ball and psychedelic lights and pounding migraine inducing, never ending drum pattern, can this not be the final word on the matter from on high?
So St Paul would like to catch up with the American megachurches.
It does seem like such folderol is a long ways off for Mo’s faction.
Why did the Puritans object to sex standing up? – It might lead to dancing.
I am quite tall, thus a small step.ladder or a stack of bibles for the Mrs to stand on would be required for a “stand up” performance….
I have discovered that beyond the hammer head of my street a boy scouts hall is being used for Friday Prayers by primitive supporters of mo, banging their stupid heads on their prayer mats like demented rocking horses.
Its only 300m from my house I find that quite disturbing….
Within 10 km of my house, there are 28 houses of worship. Of those, 18 are various denominations of Christian, 5 are Muslim (I’m not aware of whether they’re Shia or Sunni), one is Hindu, one is Bahai, and one is Jewish. The Jewish one doesn’t show up on Google Maps when you search for houses of worship, but it’s only about 1.5 km away, so I’ve passed it numerous times. It’s hidden next to a residential neighborhood but behind a Firestone tire center; I suppose that makes it harder to find and attack. One of the “mosques” is just a prayer room in a grocery called Apna Bazaar.
There are many more Arabic groceries and restaurants than there are mosques, because in the US, the REAL religion is money. Eventually all minorities come to worship that particular god.
I like to buy Saudi halvah with pistachios at an Arabic grocery called “Jerusalem”, which has not one single Israeli product on its shelves. The girl ringing up my purchases wears a hijab thingy hiding everything but her pudgy face (and that isn’t attractive at all, actually). It’s down the road from “Al Aqsa”, my previous favorite Arabic grocery, where a grumpy guy rings up your halvah. Recognize a naming pattern?
There are at least 10 Arabic groceries in that area. I’ve only been to three. There are a few Indian groceries nearby, that sell good spices in bulk. I’d like a Jewish grocery, but there aren’t any. No Jewish restaurants either. There was a restaurant with a small grocery attached about twenty years ago, but it didn’t last. Around here, nominal Jews don’t want to pay extra for kosher food.
Back in ’03 I attended a Yes concert at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabernacle_(concert_hall)
Thinking about it, Mo could have pointed out that the city of Mecca and the Saudi Arabian state undoubtedly make far more off the Kaaba as a pilgrimage site than they ever could as a music or entertainment venue.

I went to a German deli in my hometown for the first time and asked if they had halvah. The owner sternly said, “Halvah is Jewish. Don’t you know Germans and Jews don’t mix?” That was the last time I went there.
Hey postdoggerel, halvah is only Jewish because they learned about it in the middle east. It’s Jewish now, but still also Arabic. A long time ago, Israeli halvah sucked. I understand it now rivals the best, because people can learn. Here in Tampa, the best available seems to be Saudi. Yum. It used to be Syrian, but they’ve kind of destroyed their country. I think their best halvah makers exited to Saudi Arabia.
You probably shouldn’t have asked for it in a German restaurant.
As to Jews and Germans not mixing, I’m Jewish and my wife is German (originally Catholic). They mix. Holocaust is over. We both eat halvah. She’s less stridently anti-religious than I am.
We’ve also encountered a stupid German restaurant owner in Tampa, long ago, but also many good ones, mostly in Germany.
It doesn’t help to complain to city hall. 😆
Ignatz, I lived in Pasadena, CA, for 40 years. We had a lot of Armenian neighbors and a nice Armenian grocery store. They had the best halvah. I like the kind made from sunflowers. Of course, their baklava is to die for. btw, my incident with the German deli was in the desert town of Lancaster in California in the sixties. I think our Germans migrated from their home countries after the war and may have been looked down upon by us victorious Yanks. When I would take my ’56 VW to the local auto shop the German owner told me to go somewhere else. He didn’t like working on my POS. He preferred doing Porsches. The last time I dealt with him the lovely leather seats in my Carmen Ghia got “stolen” from his lot and were replaced with crappy vinyl, a vinyl solution so to speak. I thought the Ghia was a step above. I was wrong. I thought people were uptight at the time. Still do. I’m glad we got Wernher von Braun after the war. I made a career out of the space industry making sure the data was trustworthy. Always question the data.
What has Jewish food got to do with potential Muslim religious maniacs banging no-sense into their heads very close to where I live?
Oh. I saw Yes in 1977…they were REALLY good then….
postdoggerel:
Your leather seats may have been “stolen”, but at least you got a good joke out of it. Vinyl solution is pretty funny. I guess the seats of your car were a step up. In my entire life I’ve never heard of thieves that would steal apart but replace it with different ones. Usually they just take what they want and run. Did the thieving jerk compensate you in any way? Or did you have to make a claim to insurance?
Beside the rockets, Wernher von Braun became the reason for a funny song. I wonder what von Braun himself thought about Tom Lehrer’s tune. “Nazi shmatsi, says Wernher von Braun!”
I remember my mother used to have a special affinity for Armenians. She would say “they’re the only people that understand us”. Only, unlike the Germans, the Turkish government still won’t own up to what they did.
M27Holts:
Are you now the topic police?
One of the benefits of immigration, is that we get parts of the cultures of immigrants that we like. What we usually like are the restaurants and groceries, the interesting food and the different ways of preparing it. But people don’t just come with their food, they come with their entire culture. If I want the halvah, I must put up with the mosques.
Is it noise from the prayers in the boy scouts hall that you find disturbing? Or is it just the very existence of Muslims near you?
One day, I hope to visit Berlin, to have a bagel at a bagel and bookshop called Shakespeare and sons. Really:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/SL2EBcd4cqQG8fch6
I love the smell of bagels in the morning.
No noise I dare say the place would soon be fire bombed if they had a muezzin balling out at 04:00 hours on a friday morning or whatever. I accept cultural changes, but I have worked in big-data solutions that look at cultural criminality traits regarding child protection and unfortunately the data collected shows that muslim men are a real danger to non muslim women of all.ages, but SPECIFICALLY GIRLS under the age of sixteen. Political dynamite obviously and clearly the government are trying to keep such data sets swept under the carpet….
My next visit to Germany will be for the Oktoberfest…in a few years hence…
I, as a member in full standing as a cock&bull addict, must admit to having seen the disassociation of M27 and Ignatz Laripu in the past. I was about to say sorry for that, but think now I have ignited yet another blast of, what do you call it? A forced remonstrance? And, btw, my German car experience has almost faded into the vapors of the past. Not so much the effects of nationalism. After all, what harm has nationalism done?
Ignatz, No, the bugger just wanted to fuck with me. These memories are past. I had a German girlfriend once ask me if I thought there was something inherently wrong with Germans. I said no, you don’t know from Japanese.
