    According to Wikipedia they should also have been giving thanks to Jesus for their settlement lands which were nicely situated. The Indians that had cleared the land for them were all dead or dispersed from smallpox, those that hadn’t been kidnapped or killed by previous English explorers.

    They also found maize and bean seeds, abandoned by the survivors who fled for their lives when they saw yet another batch of invaders. This was also critical as they would have had nothing to plant, otherwise.

    Right from the start, Jesus sure took it out on the Natives. Even as recent as 50 years ago, priests were abusing Indian children in residential schools. These were intended to assimiliate them into the WASP culture and forever destroy their links to their past.

    The kids also learned what celibate priests do with helpless charges. Wonderful things, missionaries.

    Teddy bear not even all that funny, at least not yet, the poor woman is locked up and threatened by mobs and could get 40 lashes and six months in prison.

    The reasoning of course is funny, especially given that probably half the male children in the school are named Mo.

    Strange that there would be a stink about naming the teddy bear Mohammed, it’s a (with variations*) really common name in some parts of the world.

    Jesus, you’d think that it was circumsized or something.

    *In Turkey, I met many Mohammeds, Ahmeds, Mahmeds, Mahmets, and, one Moe.

    Ya, but you’re underestimating the outrage one essentially repressed and bored Muslim housewife can generate over the subversive unspoken intentions of the evil western teacher.

    When your only outlet for affecting the world and actually getting noticed is generating a religious protest over the attempt to subvert your child and thereby your entire culture… what else are you going to do? That child’s mother in now the spearhead of her PTA, and the officials who are pursuing it are next in line for promotion.

    What? You didn’t think shameless self-interest was strictly a western concept, did you?

    makes me giggle that people are surprised that she got arrested and sent down for 14 days! what she think she was immune from thier laws because she was british. what i want to know is when i go to thailand and pack my suitcase with 23 kilos of coke, will a delegation of peers come and speak to the president to get me out of jail and bring me home?
    ffs if you break the laws abroad and go to prison its your own bloody fault

    “Atheist doctrine” is a contradiction in terms. And no one’s saying that pain is to be avoided at all costs, but at the same time, I’m not going to thank someone if they were in a position to lessen or prevent my pain and refused to do so. Or are you saying that a child whose father abuses him should thank him when the father goes a night without abusing him? Or thank his mother for standing by and not doing anything?
