  1. M27Holts says:

If you tried to organise one of those in the UK you would likely to get your collar felt by the long arm of the law for “Islamaphobia” and Hate Crime…

  2. (Going anonymous for this one) says:

How do they even know if it’s Mohammed, anyway?

There, that’s Mohammed. I just blasphemed.

  3. M27Holts says:

Precisely, welcome to the mindset of the muslim moron….

  4. M27Holts says:

I’M pleased with the aliteration there…

  5. M27Holts says:

Hm. See the reporting of the BBC on the Salman Rushdie stabbing. It seems to me the author is siding with the New Jersey moron who perpetrated the crime…the reverential title of Prophet is used for Mo , I would prefer Arabic ignorant camel shagger as a correct title, but hey one mans profit is another mans loss….

  7. M27Holts says:

Yeah. But I know somebody who got arrested and charged for wearing his “Science flies you to the moon , Religion flies you into buildings”. Yes, charged with wearing a t-shirt under Hate-crime laws. I would imagine wearing a jesus and mo t-shirt could also lead to arrest and incarceration in the UK?

  8. postdoggerel says:

arbeyu, we can’t see your link here in the USA due to copyright. We have separation of church and state in our constitution, for what it is worth in this post-truth era. We are well and truly fucked under tRump. Will you guys come over here to live if we win the battle for democracy and jail our incompetent, corrupt, and utterly stupid dictator? You will have to forgo haggis, but we have some decent ales. I don’t recommend the southern states. They are muggy and summat backwards.

  9. jb says:

M27Holts — What happened to the person with the t-shirt? Convicted? Charges dismissed? Community service? Had to promise not to do it again? If the story ever made the papers I’d be really interested in a link!

  10. Donn Cave says:

To be fair, though, let’s take a hypothetical T-shirt that ties Christianity to some horrific offense against innocent people, and put stacks of both these T-shirts in various sizes on the table.

In England, where a nominally Christian society is being sort of invaded by culturally and racially distinct people who are often of the Islamic persuasion.

As folks line up to select one of these shirts, is the line going to be slow, because no one can really decide – “hm, don’t think much of religion, is it going to be anti- my people, or anti- the other people?”

Islam does indeed in many instances repress critical or disrespectful commentary. That’s apparently what Jesus & Mo is about, in a way, but fairly carefully balanced (even Moses gets a gentle ribbing once in a while.) That doesn’t mean that every anti-Islam expression has the same theological motives, and it doesn’t mean that the state’s interest in keeping a lid on that is motivated by any respect for Islam or concern over what its mullahs might think.

    @postdoggerel
To paraphrase Monty Python: “On second thought, let’s not go to America. ‘Tis a silly place”.

Sure, America has separation of church and state written into the constitution. But it seems to be a far more religiose place than Britain, even though England has an established religion, and there are bishops of the Church of England in the House of Lords (upper house of the UK parliament), and there are prayers in schools, and “faith schools”, and the monarch isn’t allowed to marry a Roman Catholic.

Religion in Britain is largely seen as a personal thing. You’d no more ask someone which church they go to (something that I hear is common in the US) than you’d ask them the colour of their underpants. Religion is only really a big thing amongst recent immigrants.

The YouTube clip is of comedian Stewart Lee telling about his encounter with a taxi driver who said “These days, you get arrested and thrown in jail if you say you’re English”.

  12. M27Holts says:

JB it went in front of a Magistrate who dismissed it out of hand and lambasted the dibble for wasting their and his courts time. He stated that if you were to arrest people for what other people find offensive, then you would have thousands of charges every day just.in Manchester…

  13. M27Holts says:

In England a certain Mr Lineker has just lost his job for re-tweeting an anti zionist tweet depicting a rat…I bet owners of pet rats never knew their small mammalian buddies were such reviled and nasty beasties…

  14. M27Holts says:

In WWII the desert rats were celebrated as war heroes when they defeated Rommel at El-alamein…

  15. M27Holts says:

And SOG will know that the uk humanists are defending a geezer who burnt a Koran outside a mosque, who is up in front of the beak today? The hate crime bill is being used as a screen for blasphemy law. Freedom of speech must be defended at all cost or the tyranny of a totalitarian state will be upon us…
