   Definitely. Note criticising in lack, the use of British dummy rather than American pacifier in dummy, the use of boffing as a euphemism instead of a rather crude vulgarism in added, arsehole in like … the list goes on …

   Finally, barmaids are much more a British institution than an American one.

   Well, I never knew that “dummy” meant “pacifier” (or even that the British used a different word) until I ran across Dawkins’s quotation here.

   Truly the US and UK are two countries separated by the Atlantic Ocean.

    The UK is not the only place where they drive on the left. Many other countries do too, such as Ireland, Japan, Australia, South Africa, India etc — mostly places formerly colonised by the British.

    We have real ale and proper “hand pumps” (beer taps) in the USA; you’ve got to be pretty sheltered if you think that sort of thing is exclusive to the UK. You might want to read some of the writings of the late Michael Jackson (the British beer writer, not the other guy) and what he had to say about beer in the USA: most of the stereotypes Brits have about American beer is grossly misinformed.
