I hope that a certain government doesn’t read this.

  2. jedi says:

Islam mean SUBMISSION TO WILL OF THE ALMIGHTY ,life will change forever.

  3. Tim says:

Requiring submission under threat of horrible treatment means the fabled god is unethical.

  4. azurefrog says:

That’s the whole point of conversion by the sword, though. You don’t have to believe it, you just have to go through the motions and not make a fuss, and your kids will come out nice and brain-washed.

  5. aiaiai says:

    TA DA! hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Postman says:

    Tim,

It’s my understanding that the two remaining superpower gods both subscribe to the same view of executive power which the Bush crowd did. If the god/president/what-have-you does it, then it is, by it’s very nature, ethical.

  7. Nassar Ben Houdja says:

The powers that be have little use for a collection of snivelling grovelling unthinking serfs. The glory of God is man fully alive, to the degree possible considering the circumstance if you are Canadian.

  8. Tim says:

    Postman,

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by “does it” but I am not being asked to surrender to a president under threat of burning in hell. I consider punishment for acts not socially acceptable ethical, even if I don’t agree with them. I consider demanding absolute surrender under threat of infinite torture unethical. Hmmm that line is thinner than I would have hoped, please don’t put your full wieght on it 🙂

  9. nina says:

@ Nassar, I am not sure what you are meaning about being Canadian. Canada has a much better human rights code than many countries. We are routinely in the top countries to live in as measured by the UN on healthcare, lifespan, education, equality of women and minorities. And, we have made marriage for everyone.

@all – convert by the word or the sword, I guess it’s a sort of peace if you’re the last one standing. Not a cheery thought

  10. Brother Daniel says:

@nina, someone once held a contest to find a Canadian equivalent of the phrase “as American as apple pie”. The winner was “as Canadian as possible under the circumstances.” Nassar was making a joking reference to that contest.

  11. carolita says:

kids will come out brainwashed no matter what you do. Freedom of choice is what gives them the half a chance to become self-aware and do something about it. We all submit to something. I’d just prefer not to submit to something that thoroughly slaps down any attempt to rise above submission to the level of objective observer at the very least.

  12. JoJo says:

Brother Daniel.. By Jove!! Those Canadian Johnnies could almost be British!!

  13. nina says:

    @ Brother Daniel

I wasn’t offended, I just didn’t have the frame of reference for the joke.

Must be an american one, or maybe a back east one.

The Canada equivalent is cherry pie.

  14. […] Way too good not to blog, link. […]

  15. JoJo says:

    Orrrrr not…..

  16. grouchy-one says:

Canada – leading the world in being just north of America

  17. AchillesAndTortoise says:

Hello, I’ve been reading J&M for a while but this is my first comment. I couldn’t resist since people are talking about my home country, Canada! But I don’t think I’ve ever even had cherry pie, and I don’t see it as an equivalent to American apple pie… Maple syrup is the quintessential Canadian food.

  18. Daoloth says:

    @ JM- see previous

  19. Tmaq says:

Kids do not have to be brainwashed.

Civilization was created by a critical tradition. Thales started it, and it created science.

Everyone can criticize whatever they like…including your criticism.

I just read through the whole series. Good job. I learned a bunch of stuff.

Thanks for doing it, I hope your work is remunerative for you because the only way the world will be saved is at a profit.

  20. JoJo says:

Hey – Just had a thought. Can any of you Canadians reading this look north from your houses and see the Palins? Because that would scare the shit out of me…

  21. Stephen Turner says:

Good one author. It made me think of the famous line from Tacitus, so I looked it up and wikipedia gives the translation:
“To ravage, to slaughter, to usurp under false titles, they call empire; and where they make a desert, they call it peace.”

Speaking of Sarah Palin and Canada, are you folks aware of the Tunnel Under The Bering Strait through which the forces of the Antichrist are going to come? Or something. http://roytaylorministries.com/am00390.htm

  22. Jerry w says:

TA DA, from the russian “??, ??”, as in “Yes, you!”, think fingering someone.

  23. Jerry w says:

Big problem getting cyrillic text to show up, followed by being told I can’t delete my own posting, ghost in the machine?

  24. Snowflake says:

The traditional pose for Submission is down on all fours with one’s arse up in the air. Yep, makes perfect sense to me.

  25. cina murtad says:

submission pose brings fart … at least from what i experience.

  26. nina says:

    @JoJo

luckily, I cannot see Alaska, never mind the Palins from my window – but I wasn’t entirely surprised to find out that her family has a history of popping over to Canada for healthcare and she’s bashing it now.

  27. nina says:

    @Stephen Turner

I think that Hollywood has nothing as entertaining as the conspiracy industry

  28. Didac says:

SLM is the root of both iSLaM and SaLaM, so both Mo and Je are correct. BTW, the idea of “Peace” that is promoted both from the NATO and from Taliban is identical to “Submission”.

  29. Jaime says:

If peace is the equivalent to not fighting, then submission is very peaceful. Most people say they want peace in the world, but no one really talks about the truth of how a lot of people actually want to achieve peace. Good one, Author.

PS.. I’m Canadian and I agree that the our version of Apple Pie would definitely be maple syrup…. or poutine. and I thank my lucky stars that I’m nowhere near Alaska and the palins.

  30. Intelligent Designer says:

“We are Islam. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. Lower your citizenship requirements and surrender your cities. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us.”

  31. Erik says:

    @Didac
Having the same root letters doesn’t mean having the same meaning. JiMaa3 (sexual intercourse, something comprising other things) has the same root letters as JaaMi3 (mosque, comprehensive, collector) and iJtiMaa3iyya (socialism).
SaLaaM is derived from the form I verb of SLM; SaLiMa, meaning “to be safe and sound, unharmed, blameless, free”
iSLaaM, on the other hand, is derived from the form IV verb ‘aSLaMa, meaning “to abandon, forsake, surrender, expose, commit oneself, betray”
Should you want something with a positive ring to it, you could say islam means commitment. But it does definitely not mean peace.

  32. JohnnieCanuck says:

Hi JoJo, I wondered why my ears were burning. Bit of a coincidence, wot?

All my grandparents were from the UK and being born here, my parents were British subjects? I just missed being a British subject, being born after January 1, 1947 when the Canadian Citizenship Act came into effect.

Nanaimo bars might get the vote for most popular local confectionary out here in BC, but if we were deciding on the best eastern version, I’d have to nominate ‘beaver tails’. I’ll let you chew on that thought for a bit… Some lemon, some cinnamon, mmm.

  33. JoJo says:

Nina: Yes. The Palin healthcare scrounge was funny, but hardly surprising..

  34. Roger says:

Looking North to see the Palins is not scary.

Looking south and seeing Quayle…now THAT was scary!

All bets are off though if Palin gets a government job in Washington!

And then there was Spiro Agnew.

  35. yelinna says:

    Great answer, Mo! Congrats!!!

  36. Acolyte of Sagan says:

How about ‘ as Canadian as l’arc de triomphe’?
