The Murphy Report, which covered Dublin, was already investigated. As Marie Collins pointed out to the New York Times, why ever is it on the agenda again with the Prelates? The Ferns Diocese, which covered Wexford, has also been done and dusted. Methinks there will not be too much to talk about that one, as that is the one which Colm O’ Gorman brought to the fore, and he would be a force to be reckoned with indeed.

I was in El Salvador in April. I asked people there what they thought of the child-rapist scandal. They said it was hardly even news… because people in Latin America already knew things like that happened all the time in the church.

I was watching a 1970’s BBC comedy show called “Yes, Minister” – it’s about government employees – the lead civil servant character explains to the Minister of the Dept that people are not upset about events occuring – they are only upset when they are advised of them.
People have known for decades sexual abuse happens, that spousal battery happens – and these were long considered background normal operating proceedures – and it does seem to be that we only care about an issue when it directly impacts us or is stirred up by mostly by the media.
When I think about the last 40 years in Vancouver where I live – there are 2 riots that occured – one was about 20 years ago when the cable company did “negative option billing” you got channels for a ree trial and had to actively cancel them or be deemed to accept charges for them once the trial was over – people cancelled cable en mass
and about 15 years ago when the Canucks lost the Stanley cup to the Rangers – there was 2 days of riots
we don’t get up in arms over anything else but what we see or don’t on tv
Unruly Simian, the story behind the blasphemous pants went down in India. A retailer was selling touristy underwear with pictures of famous world landmarks on them. One particular product contained an image of a French cathedral which happened to have a dome on it. Hundreds of idiot Muslims mistook the cathedral for a mosque and went on the rampage in their usual way.

@numsix – I’m with you on the distinctions between a pedophile and an actual molester or child rapist. The former is not a crime but an unfortunate condition, and the latter two are people who have committed acts.
It would be great of the usage of the word could better separate the various meanings, and focus on help for the pedophiles, and help and effective, deterring punishment for those who have abused a child.
