The moral absolutes of God absolutely fits my idea of a perfectly bigotted and ignorant world.
Love it. It’s the good thing with Buddhism – no moral absolutes. Treat people as grown up and encourage them to think and apply.
too easy author. I guess that’s not your fault.
A few strips later I’m still of the opinion that the new art looks really really good.
Poor Richard says, Absolutism is a crime. Usually.
well, another absolutely right comic of yours.the gay marriage one reminds me of uganda and the bill about same sex relationships. it is not even marriage or adopting, it is relationships themselves they are against and church has a lot in that.
It is wrong to kill innocents but of course people who defame religions are not innocent by anyone’s definition! Chiz chiz.
Nice one Author. You know of course that gay marriage is an attack on creation? The Pope says so so it must be true.

I celebrated by getting that nice bomb-turban image on a t-shirt. Nice and large.
Seems like absolutes are absolute unless they’re not. Hmmm…just like life!
Moses & Muhammad were law-makers, but Jesus stopped short of advocating capital punishment, even for pedophiles. Abortion is murder of unborn humans, and ‘gay marriage’ is an oxymoron, though (as I’ve said before) I’ve got no objection so long as a different appellation was applied to same-sex unions.
Hmm…..think I’ll get a t-shirt like Rand’s.
“Unborn human” is the oxymoron, more like. (Well, before a certain point of development- which is exactly why the time limits are in place.) As Sam Harris so nicely puts it, God is the greatest abortionist of them all! Far more miscarriages take place than abortions. Whose business is it if informed adults decide to add their own creations onto this figure?
And why so bothered about another word for ‘marriage’? The whole point is that those who wish to marry should be treated equally: using the same word, in spite of its etymology and original meaning, exemplifies the equality.
Hear hear BB. Just because one word offends your sensibilities, Crusader Rabid, and another doesn’t, that doesn’t make you less bigoted. Marriage is the union of two loving, consenting individuals that want to remain monogamous for the foreseeable future. The fact that they may both be males or females does not diminish the value of their commitment, or the value of my marriage to my wife.
Homosexuality is a natural part of the human species, as it is with many other species. It’s not ‘normal’, but that doesn’t make it wrong. Left-handedness was frowned upon until late in the 19th century. Are you going to force them to remain single for their natural lives as well?
“Everyone should believe in something, I believe I’ll have another beer”.
W.C. Fields, I believe, and I’m sure the barmaid hears that one a lot.
“Left-handedness was frowned upon …”
I note that Mo always has a sinister clutch on his beer! I suppose that now that he has a normal complement of fingers, we’re going to start seeing the right index fingy held aloft à la mode (I’ve never understood that gesture – does it mean “don’t interrupt me” or “my authority is upstairs”, or is it some sort of miniature lighting rod?)
Marriage can include more than two individuals and need not involve love or consent or monogamy. Fretting about the sex of anyone involved is nit-picking.
Buddhism is also freely invented, btw.
Arguing against abortion as our Maniac Crusader does is just another patriarchal way of perpetuating suppression of women; this time by trying to stop the damned sluts having sex. An ‘unborn human’ at 12 weeks is about 2 cm long. Hardly viable on its own. And a mother deciding to terminate has enough guilt as it is: fruitcakes believing in gods need not add to the guilt.
If marriage was a manufactured product it would be promptly banned in many countries due to its outrageous failure rate and the damage caused by the failures.
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: ‘Do not eat with your left hand, because Satan eats and drinks with his left hand.’â€
[...] ‘Doug’, here. [...]
@Doug (I’ve never understood that gesture – does it mean “don’t interrupt me†or “my authority is upstairsâ€, or is it some sort of miniature lighting rod?)
It improves the reception.
China and South Africa both allow gay marriage – sad that the US is falling so far behind.
Although, I almost wish that religious people could actually be this honest and not pretend that mean brotherly love and peaceful things.
Sunshine is the best sanitizer
“It improves the reception.”
Ah, an antenna! How thick can I be!
Now lemme see … say 7.5cm above the ground plane, 1/4 wave antenna, thats right around one gigahertz. But if I underestimated the finger length, then it COULD be at 900MHz. Eeek! Clearly the push to make 900MHz cordless telephones obsolete is to free up the sacred slice of the RF spectrum.
Just thought you all might be amused by this…
Google does like to censor after all: http://i.imgur.com/BL3Lo.gif
@doug Clearly the push to make 900MHz cordless telephones obsolete is to free up the sacred slice of the RF spectrum.
And here I thought t was my neighbours garage door opener interfering with my phone, while all along it was the local god bots. At least it’s an unlicensed part of the spectrum (in my part of the world anyway).
I’ve had similar thoughts when watching videos of people bobbing their heads back and forth whilst praying, it was just a subconscious attempt to increase the baseline and another example of evolution at work, in this case using Baseline Interferometry to improve reception.
Maybe someone has an explanation as to why those who argue so strongly against abortion choose to not fight (very) late term abortion, i.e. the death penalty.
It seems Google grew some, “bollocks,” as Author would say.
Ok, I’m real late here, but …
You set up a straw man there – there is no commandment in the decalogue that says ‘Thou shalt not kill’. None. Nil. Nicht. Nein. Nada.
There is, however, the sixth commandment which says “Thou shalt not murder”.
If you can’t see the difference between the two then there is no hope for you.
If there are no absolutes there is no growth or evolution. These things are going on their way to perfection, or absolutes. Since you claim there are no absolutes then there is no growth or evolution, only change!
Or maybe “No crucifixions”?
Do anti-choicers not know what “murder” means?
What is wrong with their powers of critical thought when it comes to this issue? I am so sick of these (mostly) men twisting a word around to pervert its meaning as if equivocation somehow proves a voluntary medical procedure is akin to a horrifying crime.
The lack of care for born women and girls with difficult decisions to be made and the future of a family registers zero importance, but “saving” this mass of cells trumps the needs of a living human being (with thoughts and goals and history and experiences and desires)… what a disgusting priority for someone else to set for you.
Oh, it get’s worse, Fenchurch. Apparently** the Pope has decreed that if the giver of oral sex on a male completes the act by swallowing, then (s)he will be guilty not only of the murder of several million potential babies, but also of cannibalising their poor, helpless, never-to-be bodies.
**It is a generally accepted rule that any statement beginning ‘Apparently’ is made-up.
Barney Frank (my longtime Congress-companion!) put it especially aptly, something to the effect of (pls forgive inexact quote; my fone is very lo-speed, & I am very lo-patience):
“Anti-choicers believe life begins at conception, and ends at birth.”
The cognitive dissonance of such people boggles the mind.
