  1. I salute you author, for making me laugh today

  2. No gap too small. Those little itty bitty gaps between the quantum thingies – even they will do.

  3. Roger says:

    Funny!

  4. Postman says:

It gives a new and sinister meaning to the phrase “Mind the gap.”

  5. Or in the case of Christian ‘science’, “Mind the crap.”

  6. Don says:

    Brilliant.

  7. mateo-argentino says:

    hehe, brilliant!

ps: If I lived in the Uk or something, I’d buy the spoing-shirt…

  8. John H. says:

You made it to Jerry Coyne’s blog! Yay! The big time, at last.

  9. Mjollnir says:

This one made me laugh out loud – at the office! Thanks, author.

  10. Whaddya mean the big time at last?! What is Butterflies and Wheels, chopped liver?

    :- )

  11. dave says:

You’re awesome and I salute you.

  12. Vytautas says:

Love the comic. I’m a little embarrassed though….I don’t get the SPOING thingy. Sprockets….springs? Somebody clue me in please.

  13. […] Templeton Foundation really must run this ad. I’d applaud their honesty if they did…but they […]

  14. Vytautas says:

Duh. The sound of an irony meter breaking.

  15. Mr Gronk says:

The only real difference between an atheist and a modern theologian is that the latter wishes there was a god, and so spends his time looking for something nice and untestable to stick the term “god” to. Still, if scientists have to cling to some sort of religion, I prefer deists to theists any day. Their concept of god is generally too fluffy and airy-fairy to get in the way of genuine understanding of the universe.

  16. Paper Hand says:

    You’ve made Pharyngula! Congratulations! 🙂

  17. Paper Hand says:

    Hey, what happened to threading?

  18. freethunkularist says:

LOL. no, really. and you’re right Ophelia. praise be to author and fainter to the rest of ya.

  19. Crudely Wrott says:

But the sound should be more like “Sproi-oi-oi-oinnnngggg.” More springy and sproingy. More fun to wear, more fun to read.

  20. Mr Gronk says:

Yes, the threading’s come unstuck in the previous issues too, making our observations look kind of disjointed

  21. ConfusedFellow says:

Indeed,Paper Hand. When I saw this today on Pharyngula I thought two things:1.ROFL that is so funny/true 2.Woohoo!OMG OMG Author is gonna get so much traffic now hooray!

P.S. Don’t feel bad Ophelia,I still adore your site.I was the one who started evangelizing it here, remember?

  22. Ed says:

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. Two birds with one stone. Bagged the dog of the gaps and Templetoon

  23. author says:

@Paper Hand and Mr Gronk – threading was an experiment. I switched it off because the bad (untidiness, and burying of new comments in the middle of the page) outweighed the good (threading).

If you want to reply to a particular commenter, just use their name. Like in the olden days.

  24. TIE says:

every time science fills a gap god kills a kitten

  25. A Lurker says:

Maybe it would be better to have threading but the first comment is always posted by a user called Time and the comment would be: Replies to my post are all the other comments in chronological order.

The replies to that comment would be all the other comments in chronological order. It would not be possible to reply directly to Time.

  26. Simon Bishop says:

Thanks for the SPOING-shirts author. I’ve ordered some. I’d also very much like a SPOING! mug, if it’s not too much trouble.

  27. Made Pharyngula – tssssssss – J and M made Pharyngula YEARS ago. PZ has been a fan since you were in diapers.

  28. Ketil G says:

for those abaout to like jesus and mo. We salute you!!!

  29. mateo-argentino says:

We should be careful, “Spoing” is generating such fanatism that it won’t be long until one of us creates de Church of Spoing…I’d be a great spoing-pope, and I bet it would be quiete a successful religion (I mean, there are religions even more ridiculous that that…they are called Religions)

    Let us spoing…

  30. Stonyground says:

My problem with the god of the gaps is that the most that he can be proven to be is the deist’s god. You cannot take unsolved mysteries and use them for evidence of Yahweh or Allah but Jews, Christians and Muslims still do anyway. The other thing is that there are a lot less gaps than the average scientifically ignorant godidiot thinks there are.

  31. Stephen Turner says:

mateo-argentino: I think you’ll find that Author is the True Spoing-Pope, and all other claimants are dangerous heretics.

  33. […] Yet more brilliance from Jesus and Mo: […]

  34. vision says:

Another brilliant one, but it’s bit of a pity that the lightning was used as an example, because there is actually still a great deal that we don’t know about lightning, esp. its forming, as you can see for example here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning
