As a funny side note, when reading the article on the burcycle, there was a link from the iranmania site to an iranian singles site, the lady pictured in the ad was a slim, seductively coy iranian in revealing western attire. no burka, just tight jeanas and a shirt. I thought Iranian men would want a modest, wholesome woman wrapped head to toe in fabric. Also, anybody interested in iran should take a look at “Perseopolis” an auto-biographical comic written by a young woman who grew up in Iran.
Which half? The outside half. No attempt is made to cover the inside half. You don’t get to see the inside half until after the collision with the truck.
I can’t imagine any practical way of making such a thing without seriously endangering the rider.
Yes, but JohnnieCannuck, they had to make a choice between seriously endangering the rider and seriously endangering any onlookers’ pure devout holiness. And let’s face it, the rider is only a woman after all.
Meanwhile, looking at it from the other side, no seriously, I mean considering the Islamist point of view, what of the Western attitude to bare female torsos?
When Christian missionaries came across half nekkid Polynesian women, they made them cover up their breasts and wear muu-muus. As National Geographic once documented so well, the practice occurred not just in Polynesia, but around the world wherever the weather permitted. Just like the t-shirt says, the women had to cover themselves so as not to provoke uncontrollable lust.
It was lucky for the women that it wasn’t Afgani explorers and colonialists or they would have gotten the full burkha treatment
This cartoon is Google Images’ only result for burcycle. Does that seem right to you?

Oh yes, how lucky those women were! They got all covered up and got god at the same time, just blessed they were (sorry for the slip into Yoda speak).
Did you ever think about how many Iranian men hurt their necks by turning quickly when some friend said “Hey, get a look at the box on that girl”?
O.K., wrong language/culture for that joke to work.
Oh well, another day, another rial…..
