    Good one!

  2. Henry Ford says:

Ah…. talk to those who have a vestmented interested…….

  3. Paul Seed says:

If they offer to kill those who disagree with them, they have lost the argument.

  4. Bateby says:

Not to mention their tax free buildings and tithes.

  5. Efogoto says:

As H. L. Mencken once warned, β€œNever argue with a man whose job depends on not being convinced.”

  6. European says:

    @ Paul
If they have the power to kill those who disagree with them, they have won the argument…

  7. Walter says:

Per Europen β€” As historically happened. Shunning works pretty well too along with loss of career and other penalties. As these threats become less severe, the power of religion diminishes.

The Book of Job, states it outright, that alleged deity is about pure power and you should knuckle under.

    See “Kiss Hanks Ass.”

  8. Tom says:

That media like this can result in the deaths if innocent people is a terrible tragedy…

  9. jb says:

European — Now now now. You can’t win an argument with violence. Violence never determines who is right! The only thing that violence determines is who is left.

  10. ego says:

a rare clean miss by Author. you don’t refer that particular question to the ministry of truth, you direct the questioner to the ministry of love, to correct the thoughtcrime.

  11. Though “I Am the Very Model of a Biblical Philologist” on you tube is at least one thing in their favour:

The Biblical Philologist was great. Here is a scientific version. You may need to click the sound icon to hear it. https://www.nytimes.com/video/science/100000002746634/ode-to-trilobites-lost.html

  14. Paul Seed says:

@European Lost the argument – after all, they have no argument to put forward, and by resorting to violence thy have admitted it. Not a pleasant way to win, but a win nonetheless.

  15. European says:

Actually, when only the Right is left (@jb), it seems that violence has won (@Paul), as there may be no one of the Left left to question if the Right made a right (or any) argument. Being made clear quite Rightly in Pakistan these days (just to name one)

It’s after midnight and now technically Xmas. And I couldn’t care less about the holiday save that I get a few days off, and on those days I don’t have to worry about deciding whether I should pay for parking or get up earlier to take (unreliable yet increasingly pricey) public transport.
I am worried about my bank balance after paying off my bills and car insurance, since they all landed at once and were due before new year’s.
Thankfully I am my own occupant and Xmas, as mentioned, is more of a convenience than a tradition. Should I thank God or governmental devotees that I get to stay home and be paid for the privilege? After all, my livelihood doesn’t revolve around religion, even if the hard-right Jesus freaks in power want to make it so. My concerns are more focused on the fact that I live in one of the most expensive Western countries in the world and inflation keeps rising.
I suppose I’m extra jaded because the Prime Minister (bless his Christian soul!) is more concerned with passing a “religious freedom” bill to give organized sects increased power and influence over our otherwise secular society than, say, the rise in poverty and climate issues, and then fucks off to Hawaii while half the country is on fire.
In short, fuck Xmas, fuck summer, fuck this greedy government and thanks for the day off.

  17. Josh says:

Thank dog for Bart Ehrman and Richard Carrier.

  19. Laripu says:

May the joy of the birth of our blessed saviour fill your hearts with gladness.

    Just kidding.

Failing birth of saviour etc, I find that Johnny Walker, Evan Williams, and Abraham Overholt fill my heart with joy.

Enjoy your days off work. πŸ™‚

  20. Laripu says:

We’re going to continue the tradition of “Jewish Christmas” tomorrow, which involves going out to eat Chinese food.

It’s a tradition that started (I think) in New York among secular Jews (who therefore didn’t follow Jewish dietary law). Chinese restaurants were among the few things open on Christmas Day.

As it happens, my wife and I like Chinese food. πŸ™‚
