it certainly gives something for rational people to think about next time your filling your tank up where all those pennies go.
Oddly, this is not an issue of the religion of peace getting out of order – rather a feudal monarch reaching for whatever tools are at hand to defend the indefensible.
Another great punchline, Author. Almost another T shirt there.
I suspect this extra grip will actually speed up the disintegration of Saudi as a state. However, given the politics of the region what ever rises in it’s stead isn’t likely to be an improvement.
Greetings, fellow terrorists.
First we were strident, then we were militant, now we’re terrorists. I think I should hand in my atheist membership card before someone straps a bomb to me.
Thank goodness I’m non-theist. It means I won’t end up on Chop Square in Riyadh, doesn’t it?
A terrorist because I’m atheist? No way! I swear to Satan it’s not true! Now before I get too drunk and depraved, pass me some more of that roast baby while I bugger this goat…
I am pleased and proud to be singled out as an enemy to this mediaeval-minded tyrant. I should certainly be ashamed and disgusted to have his approval.
In a way, he is right, it really is terrorism; he is naturally literally terrified of a world in which his brand of bullshit doesn’t command fawning respect, and behind which he can no longer hide his disgusting personal character and behaviour.
Is the barmaid having a discussion with someone else behind the bar? It seems that Jesus and Mo are just overhearing her conversation.
We are certainly a very mild breed of terrorists compared to those who bomb crowded markets or shoot schoolgirls in the head, but I think our tactics are far more effective. Laughter, mocking and derision are terrifying to those who hold idiocy sacred.
We will destroy their way of life; we will demolish their weltanschauung, using nothing but words, logic and reason. That should and does terrify them.
Fists in the air, folks. Let’s get ’em. And thanks again, Author, for leading the charge.
Hahahaha sometimes it’s like looking in a mirror. “There aren’t any good reasons to accept it” could be my motto.
What a nightmare S.A. is.
It’s appalling to see the Islamic countries dig deeper into their systematic oppression of anything or anyone that may “threaten” Islam. It practically sends the signal: “We are certain that our religion is perfect! … but don’t make us question it, don’t make us think and most importantly: don’t make it clear how we were fools all along”
(By the way, I decided to read the entire comic this past week. I couldn’t help but show my Muslim girlfriend)
To top it all off, it’s a woman who’s scaring J&M. Reminds me of what Ron says to Hermione in the movie version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: “You’re a little scary sometimes, you know that? Brilliant… but scary.”
Here’s to all the brilliant women in this pub! May they use their powers for good, but never hesitate to be scary when the situation calls for it!
DH, this remind me “The Name Of The Rose” where the priest killed people that read the book about laughing because he fear that will destroy his religion and his god. A very good book/movie if you have not seen it.
I’m moving, so I will not have time to read a lot here. I will try to catch up when I have time.
This is not as O/T as it seems, especially as His Noodliness (BBUH) appeared in a J&M strip a couple of weeks ago.
JohnM, not a functional link.
omg Yes, I’ve seen the movie. Chilling. I’m so glad I wasn’t born into the dark ages. We just have to put up with the lingering attitudes.
Not only is the barmaid an atheist; she’s a woman. (And we know how the Saudis feel about women!) The cartoon reminded me of what Ron says to Hermione in the movie version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: “You’re a little scary sometimes, you know that? Brilliant… but scary.”
A toast to all the brilliant women here at the Cock & Bull! May they use their powers for good, but never hesitate to be scary when the situation calls for it!
I apologise for the non-functional link above. Here it is in full, thereby side-stepping my dubious HTML skills – or lack of them.
So Richard Dawkins is a terrorist!
As a fellow ‘Bright’ I am extremely offended.
No apology for going off topic, with some glorious images that deserve a wider audience:
Oooh! I’m a vegetarian, a pacifist, I don’t kill insects, but shoo them out, and now I’m a terrorist! According to people who behead those who don’t agree with them.
I’m so proud…
Sorry for the double posting. I suspect that, when I tried to post the 1st time, I forgot to indicate that I am not a spammer, and that the Author took pity on me and approved that comment after I’d already submitted the 2nd one.
Hotrats, thanks for the links to the beautiful pictures. I remember when cameras that could capture such images existed only in science fiction. It’s a treat to see such wonderful bits of reality that are hidden to the naked eye.
Or a bowl of my evil chilli. Funny, but I’d never considered it an instrument of war before. I may have to post the recipe – it could be to Atheism what Semtex was to the IRA.
No. Our long-suffering Barmaid has heard their metabollocks so often she can now counter their objections before they’ve made them.
Nassar, where are you, lad?
Frankly I’m prepared to let NbH’s published oeuvre stand as it is. When understandable, he seems to be just as rude about atheism as belief, and has on occasion been quite contemptuous. Sniping from the sidelines, mangling the language and the limerick form beyond recognition, refusing all dialogue – what is it, exactly, that you miss?
You’ll feel different about insects once you get bitten by a Dengue fever carrying Aedes albopictus or a sand-fly infecting you with visceral leishmaniasis.
If you don’t tick the non-spammer declaration, the comment will refuse to upload. Your problem arose because of the ‘insert-plus-sign-in-nym’ bug. It thus appeared to come from a new commenter and went to moderation – which entails a time delay.
Thanks for the info, JohnM! I’ll make sure both to edit my name so that all plus signs are changed to spaces and to indicate that I’m not a spammer.
AoS, I have heard that anything can be a weapon. But wouldn’t your chili simply reinforce the victims’ belief in hell–or, perhaps, in heaven? 😉
Does anyone have a link to a good source for King Abdullah’s “Royal Decree 44″?
The ”’Independent” article linked from “Oh wait, there is. In Saudi” is dated Tuesday 01 April 2014. It seems to have started the story, so I remain sceptical.

hotrats, you pretty much had the answer in your post: When understandable, he seems to be just as rude about atheism as belief, and has on occasion been quite contemptuous. Sniping from the sidelines, mangling the language and the limerick form beyond recognition, refusing all dialogue…
I enjoy his never-give-up spirit, his constantly inconsistent form, the often clever ideas and gags that somehow manage to get through the bad verse, and, of course, he’s one of the regulars in this, the best and possibly most inclusive of locals, and his absence concerns me as much as would that of any of us long-timers.
two cents’ worth, I was thinking less of the consumer of the chilli and more of those on the other end of its rather explosive effects. I calculate that three atheists, each with a large portion of the divine concoction inside them, could clear the average church or mosque with gas to spare. 🙂
Darwin, I pulled the following quote from a comment of yours on the last thread:
It’s always fascinating to see a group declare that a huge segment of the world are just deluded fools.
I can think of one group of like-minded people who are constantly declaring just that, with some justification. 🙂
hotrats, I’ve just had a look at those beautiful high-speed photo’s of drops. Absolutely stunning (although the God Squad might mis-appropriate a couple as ‘proof’ of the existence of angels – deluded fools!), but hard to believe they are pictures of liquids and not the work of a master glass-blower.
I’d better add, before my fellow pedants jump in: yes, I am aware that glass is a liquid, albeit a super-cooled one – though not, as many believe, one that continues to flow downwards under the influence of gravity, an idea born of the fact that very old glass windows as seen in medieval churches and suchlike tend to be thicker at the bottom of the panes. There is a perfectly logical reason for it, but it isn’t that glass behaves like liquid in extreme slow-motion.
The thing is, “Oh wait, there is. In Saudi” takes us to a newspaper article published on Tuesday 01 April 2014. Now, there’s something of a tradition in newspapers, both in Britain and on the island of San Serriffe, of a certain amount of mischief on that day. The article looks devilish plausible, but …….
Almost as funny as Jesus and Mo:
Ha. Just noticed the thing about names and plus signs. Thirdish time lucky?
My comment attempted to alert all to the link from “Oh wait, there is. In Saudi” going to a newspaper article published on Tuesday 01 April 2014. Now, newspapers both in Britain and on the island of San Serriffe have been known to be quite inventive once a year …….
Finally, Jesus provides one possible explanation of where the term “Holy Shit” comes from, and I say “Amen”…
Acolyte, yes, and isn’t that fascinating?
Glass is an amorphous solid.
