There once was a church, prim and tight,
Whose doctrines seemed pure in the light.
But Greek Love was found,
Scandal spread all around,
And Parliament said, “It’s not right!”
I passed a kidney stone once…ended up with neck of bladder damage…not fun I can tell you…almost as bad as a Prostate infection with a antibiotic resistant strain of ecoli. Only an application of an experimental drug saved my life….No prayers required…
Thus the crux of the problem is this. Religions and the people that administer it, are wrongly SHOWN RESPECT…so clerics, imams, Rabbi’s shamens and all colours of lying through their teerh scoundrels use that respect to obtain and abuse children and vunerable adults…
In the 1980’s ‘The Paedophile Information Exchange’ was founded by child abusers who rejected the then current ‘Pederast’ as unfavourable to them whilst ‘Pedophile’ suggests a fondness for children.
Though defending their record was strenuous
The bishops have proved disingenuous
Though they tried very hard
To maintain their faƧade
Their place in the Lords is now tenuous
In a defense many years ago of the Catholic church, vs. other denominations where the same problems occur, a spokesman for the pope suggested it would be more properly “ephebophilia” in most cases, directed at boys between 11 and 17.
An article by a Polish psychologists uses the term “paraphilia”, which is a neutral term for perversion of whatever kind. I didn’t read the paper, but the abstract suggests he thinks the priests are getting a bad rap because they don’t rape toddlers.
Learning how to say “Antidisestablishmentarianism” in my teenage years was the exercise that first brought the idea of disestablishment into my life.
I taught my daughter how to say “Floccinoccipilification” during a boring 20 minute bus ride in the holidays, just for the moment when her English Language teacher asked her what she’d done in the summer……..
I may have missed the reveal but it still gives me a warm feeling to this day š
PS I hardly ever post so I’ll take the opportunity to thank both the creator and the community for all the witty banter and enlightening cartoons / discussions. One day I hope to be intelligent / witty / stark-raving-mad enough to contribute!
In the USA we have the White House Faith Office. It is run by Paula White, who preaches āprosperity gospelā. In a nutshell it means send me money and God will make you rich. The more money you send me, the richer you will be. Elon Musk runs a department called DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. The first thing DOGE should put on the chopping block should be the White House Faith Office. I can think of no greater waste of tax payer money. But hey, this is America under Trump.
There is nothing moral about religious nuttery. Religion is the one alliowable anachronism in the 21st century. Until that stops, I cannot see a future for Homo Sapiens…
@M27Holts – “the one allowable anachronism”, eh? In which cultures?
I suppose as “disallowed anachronisms” we might list sexism, racism, jingoism, and the like, yet these are still around, as exemplified by arranged marriages & unequal pay, colonies & slavery, and – excuse my language – Nigel Farage. And we ALSO still have communism, capitalism, liberalism, fascism, existentialism, … Hell, we still have ‘rap music’ and bagpipes!
As an optional take-home assignment, can anyone think of an ‘-ism’ that isn’t toxic and abusive?
How about nudism?
@M27holts – Yes, well, since I can’t become President of ‘Merica, religion is my only ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ option when I’m a jerk. Thanks for reminding me!
But as an atheist, I can’t blame any of my jerk-like behaviour – those nasty whatever-isms – on a religion I don’t follow or a culture I don’t have. (Atheists being perfect beings, of course, our own messiahs.) So when I’m a jerk, it’s 100% just because of ME.
I wonder where this attitude fits on the axis running from self-loathing to narcissism.
Jesus & Mo (the characters) are absurd, blinkered, and oddly very sweet. J&M (the cartoon) is brilliant: sharp, delicious, irresistible. Salman Rushdie
Jesus and Mo cartoons are wonderfully funny and true. Richard Dawkins
Jesus and Mo make the world a better place, bless their little hearts. Ophelia Benson
In a world defined by outrage and offence and liberal spinelessness, Jesus and Mo is a treasure, whose value we should never fail to recognize. Read them. Laugh. And think. Kenan Malik
The brilliant, celebrated, freaking hilarious atheist comic strip ... Greta Christina
...rays of sanity in a befuddled world. Keri Hulme
The liveliest depictions of Muhammad currently available... Malise Ruthven
J & Mo is the funniest and most consistently thought-provoking cartoon strip on the Net. In a saner world, it would run in a major newspaper. Nelson Jones, Heresy Corner
Consistently amusing, frequently thought-provoking and often heart-warming. New Humanist
Jesus & Mo is one of the most wonderful things on the internet.. JT Eberhard
Wittily captures much of the absurdity of religious apologetics. Mano Singham
I love jesusandmo.net cartoons - witty and sharp! Katha Pollitt
Often hilarious, frequently wry, these cartoons do what all the best cartoons do: they tell the truth through humour. Terry Sanderson, NSS President
...a wonderfully acid British cartoonist... Nick Cohen
I love the scrappy mockery of Jesus and Mo. Freedom of speech
includes the freedom to mock any person, any thing, any activity, and
any belief -- and J&M stands up for this unflinchingly Richard Stallman
...empowering, important and deeply progressive, not to mention hilarious... Council of Ex-Muslims

I won’t be satisfied till 100% of Britons have zero tolerance for all ideologies and practices that are based on any metaphysical bollocks…
The C of E is merely a wraith
As its members are losing their faith.
No Anglophiles
Respect pedophiles,
Ah, the morals oh Henry the VIII.
Yo postdog it’s paedophiles….If you are an Anglophile…
A Pedophile is someone whom likes to hike? š¤£
M27, no, paedophile sounds like what happens when you pass a kidney stone. In most cases it seems like giving birth to a wood rasp.
As an Australian I must confess that I had no idea of the Bishops’ Bench till now. I did wonder where Britain’s moral standing came from.

Sodomy, fellatio, cunnilingus, pederasty. Father why do these words sound so nasty?

Postdog you are a cunning linguist…š¤£
Donn, many paraphilias can be conducted by consenting adults…so what defines a paraphilia?

These atavisms know their Master, though. Even the bagpipes – can you strap on bagpipes without piping up “Amazing Grace”?
Jainism
Bagpipes were made to be heard from a distance, from the top of a ben (hill), their sound wafting down to the glen below.
Preferably a great distance and a very high hill.
And I say that as a Scot.
@Donn Cave
I googled “strap-on bagpipes”.
Don’t.
Tebirkes…yes you can get away with all those suppossedly disallowed Anachronisms, using your get out of Jail free card…your religious belief…
Under the guise of Cultural Relativism…
Arbeyu…you Chilly Caledoneans like going commando in your skirts in sub zero temperatures, you need a strap on in those circumstances…š¤£
