Happy Blasphemy Day!

Discussion (34)¬

  1. As a Dane I’d like to thank everybody for their support on the 4th anniversary of the Muhammed-cartoons (you do realize that is why today is Blasphemy Day, right?).

  2. I deny the existence of the Holy Spirit. I’m quite happy to worship bottled spirits though.

    Happy Blasphemy Day!

  3. WilliamJansen, we’re celebrating the brave Danes who published Mo’s pictures. Also, just to piss off fundamentalists everywhere.

  4. As well as being a genocidal maniac, Hitler was also a necrophiliac? What a sick bastard he was. Long live unbelievolution!

  5. By all written accounts, I think gOD has been more of a genocidal maniac than any human has ever been, Hitler included.
I think turkey and presents are a great idea! And maybe ham, shellfish and any other forbidden foods. Send your wish list to Father Blasphemy, c/o Al-Masjid al-Haram, Mecca

  6. Hurrah for the Danes! (For anyone who has to look up “Hurrah,” it’s an exclamation of support, also spelled “Hoorah” or “Hooray.” But “Hooray” is pronounced slightly differently. I’ll stop now.)

  7. Today in many parts of Canada, many Catholic churches are getting rid of holy water and serving the communion host into the recipients hand (not the mouth). Is it blasphemy to suggest that the body and blood of ourlordandsaviorjesuschrist could transmit a disease?

  8. Happy Jesus-fucking, Mahomet-buggering, Vishnu-bastard, Buddha-arseholing, god-bastarding Blasphemy Day folks!

(apologies if this shows up twice; when I sent it the first time it didn’t show – hmm, which of the above have I pissed off?)

  9. Happy blasphemy day- godlessness bless us one and all!
Just a thought- there is a competition for a blasphemous cartoon-
    http://www.centerforinquiry.net/campaign_for_free_expression
    Scroll down to point 3.
I am sure author is too modest to put her or himself forward but that is no need for the rest of us to do so. Perhaps we could vote for the most blasphemous of JaMo cartoons (so many to read, so little time!) and put it forward.

  10. Happy Blasphemy day! (again) – it was blasphemy day for me yesterday (since I live in Australia), but i’m happy to celebrate it again 🙂

  11. Oh, heck, I missed it. But then I do a little blaspheming every day – in my head anyway.

  12. On a related note, today I saw a thing that began “Glenn Beck blames godlessness for America’s […]”
And I enjoyed thinking maybe Glenn Beck was saying “how can […] be so messed up? THERE IS NO GOD!!”

  13. I like the reversal of the creationist view that Hitler loves Darwin to Darwin loves Hitler. The logic of person a loving person b when person b was born after person a died matches so well with your typical creationist.

  14. Hold on! Religion IS blasphemy to we infidels isn’t it. It is indeed a kind of psychological torture to us to have to daily experience the ridiculousness of religion, alive and well in the 21st century. Hm. Maybe this one is not so funny after all.

  15. The next time soeone tries the Darwin/Hitler line try this site out for size:
    http://nobeliefs.com/nazis.htm
Scroll down a bit and there is a lovely set of devotional christian paintings by one A. Hitler. Suitable for Xmas and oter religious holidays? Hallmark, take note.

  16. The Center for Inquiry also had a slogan/verse competition running with the cartoon one, though both have now closed.

Merry Blasphemy Day to one and all! Maybe it should be a holiday.

  17. Jesus’ use of “Hoist by one’s own petard” is appropriate given his assumption that what they are doing is using satire and ridicule against blasphemers.

There’s more than a few flaws in that assumption, which is the main joke. However what tickles me about the cartoon is that blowing yourself up with your own bomb has become such a popular pastime with the followers of his fellow protester.

  18. i just realized that if your url was meant to be one of those swanky continues-the-word-after-the-dot types (yes, i know it’s called a top level domain), this comic would be called “jesus and monet”, which might make it slightly less funny. i’m not sure why i’m telling you this. please disregard this comment.
