    And the gospel was served with a nice hot steamy batch of tea-bags

  2. Well, if you want to find out exactly how sinful homosexuality is, then you really have to rent a prostitute at rentboy.com. That would be the scientific approach, wouldn’t it?

  3. SteveInMI says:

    @WilliamJansen: I think it’s an anecdotal approach. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t care… “whatever lifts your luggage”, I say. But this guy meets the Frank test. Hypocrisy demands mockery.

  4. Dave Dell says:

    LOL. “Carry that bag for you?” Hypocrisy demands mockery indeed. “When will these scandals end?”, they ask. “When everyone stops giving them money and support.”, I reply.

  5. Godless not gormless says:

    yeah, like mo’s in a position to slag anyone about homosexuality!!! I’m led to believe that muslims are very partial to a bit of man on man rumpy pumpy. I heard from a pakistani woman, that the first sexual experience a pakistan man has is either with an animal or another man (not that men/humans are not animals, but you know what I mean. I’ve just been having that ‘we’re animals too/no we’re not we were created in gods image’ debate with a few religiots recently so I thought I’d make my position clear!) and there’s also been plenty written on the amount of homosexuality practiced by these guys. Glass houses and throwing stones come to mind.

  6. Rock Ripsnort says:

    A variation on the ol’ “A prostitute said he’d do anything for a buck, as long as I could put it in only three words” joke.

  7. […]   I am truly gladdened to see you back on the proverbial straight & narrow.  Gladdened that you can put all this divisive “separation of church and state” nonsense behind you and devote your time to the important issues like tithing, free parking and ministering to sinners. […]

  8. nina says:

    @ GNG – I always find it funny when men are busted having animal sex and their defence is that they aren’t prevs because the animal was female.

  9. nina says:

    Part of why this story makes me happy isn’t the whole hoisted by his own petard and that it provides more proof you can’t pray away the gay.

    But because as long as there are fundies, there will always be fodder for J&M.

  10. Jon B says:

    I’m sure all UK election watchers will realise that Rekers was just ensuring that he had a mandate…

  11. Atheismo says:

    @ godless not gormless

    Besides, only the catcher’s gay, right?

  12. Cafeeine says:

    @nina
    “it provides more proof you can’t pray away the gay”

    It also provides extra ammunition to those who make the point that the most rabid anti-gay advocates are likely just protesting too much.

  13. Norsk says:

    God, but I love this strip!!

  14. Innocent Bystander says:

    Remember that military guy in American Beauty (the film)? I think we should show compassion toward these poor Xtian gay anti-gay activists. It’s not nice to poke fun at them. Jesus said it’s not a sin to be tempted – only to succumb to temptation. It’s very tempting to be a minister, with all those faithful followers tithing a portion of their income every month. If I believed in the power of prayer, I’d say let us pray for Alan, that God would give him the strength to lift his own luggage and the courage to come out and suffer with dignity ‘crucifixion’ by his erstwhile fellow evangelicals. Let us also pray that he can find love without having to pay for it. Amen.

  15. Proud Kuffar says:

    Fundies are not funny. There are too many of them!

  16. Yes, this comic pretty much should write itself. How’s this for a sound bite from the religious right: He has argued that stoning is the preferred means of capital punishment, noting that it is a communal activity and “the implements of execution are available to everyone at virtually no cost.” This is not coming from ancient times, folks. This is today in America.

  17. Sorry. I got too wordy on that last post. What caught was the idea that stoning someone to death is a wholesome communal activity. The mind boggles.

  18. AchillesAndTortoise says:

    @Darwin Harmless

    Seems reading the bible thoroughly can have one of two outcomes. Either you become a lunatic who thinks stoning is a “wholesome communal activity”, or you throw it out and join us for a laugh over a J&M comic.

  19. Jerry w says:

    @Godless not gormless,
    I suppose that the thinking of the church is that it’s o.k. to live in glass houses, just don’t use the back door…

  20. nina says:

    @Cafeeine

    Yes, you’d think if the rest of them didn’t want people to realize this, that they’d slowly back away from the gay issues.

    But they are arrogant enough to think that people will assume they are above reproach or that they won’t get caught.

    I am going to throw a party when James Dobson and Fred Phelps are discovered to be a couple.

  21. John Moore says:

    Third frame comment “whatever lifts your luggage” made it on Urban Dictionary this weekend……

  22. SteveInMI says:

    I’m so proud. 🙂

  23. Jerry w says:

    @Nina,
    Interesting use of “when” and not “if”, “….. when James Dobson and Fred Phelps are discovered to be a couple”. I’m going to drive over to Target and see if they’ve registered for gifts. I’m guessing that James is going to be the husband, or “top” as it were.

  24. Gk4c4 says:

    If these things are not really happening now, it wil be an interesting joke. There is no limits on the depravity of sick human mind. The very worst in my opinion is because this priest is an extrimist anti-gay – same as the pastor haggart (or something similar!) before. Mo is happily attacking J, while definitely similar situations happen in Islam as well, only much more difficult to uncover.

  25. Let’s just remind ourselves of how evil this man actually is.

    TRiG.

  26. Gopi says:

    I have a theory about why there seem to be so many anti gay bigots that speak out against homosexuality.

    Think of a simple analogy. Replace man-sex with theft. Imagine a pastor was tempted to steal when he saw an opportunity. And imagine that theft wasn’t a crime. Wouldn’t you expect to see the pastor pushing for the outlawing of theft? I wouldn’t be surprised to see somebody who was tempted pushing to make it harder for him to resist temptation.

    I really think it’s as simple as that. A desire to do something does not make something immoral, moral. All these people see is anti gay propaganda, so it’s hard for them to realize that there’s nothing wrong with it.

    Another comment I once read: Churches focus on anti gay because they want to push the idea that you need their moral codes. Yes, your secular morality covers theft, murder, etc. But look, homosexuality is also wrong, and your moral code doesn’t tell you that. You need ours to be sure you get it all right!

    I find that plausible as an explanation. That, and most other parts of their moral code are already enshrined in law. Churches have no reason to speak against theft.

  27. Acolyte of Sagan says:

    “The Last Temptation of….er….Rekers”. Doesn’t have the same ring -pun not intended – really, does it?

    Am I a spammer? No.
    Do I swear? Every damn day!
