Ladies and gentlemen, the Fiqh Council of North America.
Flying above the ground in a metal ‘fake’ bird – not created by allah is HARAM.
If you cannot get there by camel – you should not go.
Not sure if there’s supposed to be an image, but I get ” Warning: reset() [function.reset]: Passed variable is not an array or object in /f5/jesusandmo/public/wp-content/themes/comicpress-vNEW/functions.php on line 159” as the src for it.
Thanks, kjordan. Fixed it.
kjordan, clicking the calendar works too
This puts me in a bit of a quandry. On the one hand I agree that the full body -nude- scanners are a move to far, and an invasion of personal privacy. On the other hand, these scanners have been put in place because of the extremist fundamentalists actions of some religions – Islam included. So I find myself agreeing with these moderate Islamists – not something that happens very often.
Slugsie: “these scanners have been put in place because of the extremist fundamentalists actions of some religions – Islam included”
Let’s at least be honest: because of extremist fundamentalist actions on behalf of a single religion, Islam. Which makes the FCNA reaction intolerably ironic.
I’m a naturist, so I don’t give a tuppenny toss if some bored airport security guy can see my danglies. Given the choice I’d check in and fly naked, if nudity were compulsory we’d have no fear of religious fundamentalists boarding the aircraft, thereby reducing the risk quite considerably.
Odd though, how the more fundamental the religionist, the more they decry bare flesh, has anyone else noticed?
sarge084 like the oft-noted idea that cleanliness, far from being next to godliness, is actually anathema for those who consider themselves Godly
Yes! I’ve been saying this for years. Everybody naked would make me feel much safer (if slightly queasy).
I get to be the first to say it: flying is not a right, it is an privilege. I you don’t play by the rules, you don’t play.
@ Sarge – Not true those freaks would simply insert the explosives where the scanners cannot “see”. Which is really why these things are just a way of making people feel safe.
I recently made an argument that it is ok to ban the burqa (as discussed in France) because nudists on the street are also taken in by the police and forced to dress modestly, so why shouldn’t people also be forced to “undress” (modestly) if this seems to be necessary? It’s a question of norms, custom and culture (and the definition of modesty) and thus open to debate, but ah this is exactly what the adherents of Islam, etc. don’t want.
I love the way Jesus and Mo can turn on a dime.
Author, I do believe you’re getting even sharper than before, which is saying something.
Well, unless you manage to get explosives in place of your bone marrow, i really doubt there is anywere the scanners can’t “see”.
They seem to be arguing against the scanners displaying the image of the person rather than just the non-person bits, not asking for special dispensation for Muslims. I’ve got to say, as a liberal atheist who just doesn’t want (non-specially-selected) people staring at his willy, I’m inclined to agree with them.

But isn’t dressing in a special way to show your modesty, bragging about it?
as for Mo, no one likes to pay the piper.
I am against racial profiling – but I don’t see religious profiling as being the same – after all, many ethnically diverse people become Islamic and frankly, Arabs are Caucasian so…….
All we need now is a security procedure that involves rubbing people with a piece of bacon.
I suggest going to the Fiqh Council website page for videos and letting it run in the background. I bet it would be easy to crash from excess bandwidth.
This is going around on the internet …
An engineer (ex-NASA project director) has what I think is
the near perfect solution for airport security!
*Here’s a solution to all the controversy over full-body
scanners at the airports. Have a booth that you can step into
that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device
you may have on you.*
*It would be a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this
crap about racial profiling and this method would eliminate a long
and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift..*
@S.T. Here here!!!!
I don’t understand the sense in which flying is a “privilege” any more than all the other commercial transactions we make every day, especially because there are no practical alternatives that meet our modern cultural and economic needs for fast long-distance transportation.
An Imam was interviewed on the radio the other day saying that these new body scanners would make orthodox moslems stop flying on those airlines that used them.
Oh no. Say its not so! Whatever will the rest of us do?
BTW, FYI and WTF – profiling is not “racial”. You are not genetically endowed with your crackpot dumbass beliefs. Presumably you achieve them through the usual modes of ignorance and arrogance.
But I have a solution-Why not just be sociable and offer everyone a free (but compulsory) bacon sarnie in the hospitality lounge before the flight? Sort the mensch from the goys, so to speak.
Let the flaming commence…
I’ve got no problem with profiling or a detonation booth.
Just because flying, driving, the internet are all part of normal daily life – does not mean one is entitled to them if you can’t behave.
Your job requires you to fly? then don’t do things that will get you banned from flying.
I was surprised recently about Facebook removing some prisoner’s profiles because the UK Justice Department asked them to take it down, because the criminals were attracting fans and plotting with people on the outside to continue doing crimes.
and I thought, well, since they are in jail, why are they being allowed on the internet where they have all this access to the outside world – isn’t jail where you’re supposed to be separated from society until you rehab or die there?
Re body scanners. A while ago it was reported on the BBC that in a trial run a woman was able to conceal a small hand-gun in her bras without it being detected. Shouldn’t we have belt and braces: first the metal detector, then the body scanner. We could also have booths in which a passenger is required to strip naked while being observed on CCTV, pass the clothing through a hatch to an official who will examine every item minutely, perhaps have the clothes treated by some process that would render harmless any explosives hidden in hems and secret pockets before returning them to the shivering passenger. This procedure might just work, but it would require a 3-day checking-in time.
Why not simply scrape the passenger’s meat off and push it through a big sieve to remove any items that shouldn’t be there?
I was going to suggest nudity, bondage and catheters but Dave has taken this to its inevitable conclusion.
Just as the silly rules about liquids in hand luggage enforced in the EU can be circumvented by anyone with half a braincell (which in fact probably does exclude a few fundies), can’t you just carry explosives on board *within* your body? Out of ‘haya’, I am not suggesting any orifices.
@Sarge084 – because those who control the nudity and other natural traits of the human body control everything else Thus fundies and fascists promote “modesty” and “decency” as controlling what people shall wear or not or what to do with their body – making it “immoral” to be born with a natural body makes people confused, frightened and easier to control. Just as the fashion business is one of the hugest businesses in the world, profiting insanely from mere dictating what people should wear and how human bodies MUST look like this season.
Intriguing FCNA site. How exactly does one make a deposit or a withdrawal from the Fatwa bank? And how competitive are they compared to non-Muslim lenders who are not prohibited from charging interest on loans?
“ex-NASA project director”
i bet Stephen Turner forwards PowerPoints of gigantic skeletons that “came from national geographic”.
oh, and “naturist”? name ONE human society that hasn’t at least invented the loincloth. that’s right – we ain’t gone around “natural” for 10s or perhaps 100s of thousands of years. you’re not a “naturist”, you like to flap your junk around and have people look at it. you my friend, are a flasher with a support group.
If you are obtaining your information about clothing from watching National Geographic Specials, you will gain the impression that everyone (who has appeared on camera) wears a loin cloth. And/or has their boobies covered. Out In The Real World, this is not the case.
Nudists (naturists) all wear aprons whilst cooking bacon.
@blueshifter – Aboriginal people of Australia, people living in tropical rain forests, tribes in Asia and India (including holy fakir men) lots and lots of tribes in Africa and Indians of both Americas have/or used to have no need for loincloth or covered boobies. It’s the prudent colonial “cultures” (or shall I say vultures) with Bibles, Qurans and guns that forced “modesty” upon them.
Also a great deal of European pagans used to strip freely whenever they had the opportunity, for spiritual and hygienical reasons, even for battle; – of course all that BEFORE they got Christianized.
The scanner doesn’t show up bottom bombs. And of course those who refuse to be scanned are refused their flight, so the camel and other forms of land and sea transport will be available as required. Be afraid of bottom bombs. They are the ultimate weapon.
If “these scanners have been put in place because of the extremist fundamentalists actions of some religions”, why aren’t they in use in Israel, where all sorts of nut case religious fundamentalists are everywhere? Security there is best described as talking eye to eye with the passengers and asking questions of them, even those with their shoes still on. Picture having a conversation with a bottom bomb in place, no crap there.
Somewhere in these comments is the missed opportunity for a joke with the punchline “Welcome to Jamaica – Have a nice day..”
I stand corrected – there ARE several recorded cases of neolithic cultures with no clothes whatsoever. My bad, another one of those “common knowledge” facts that are not facts at all…
carry on, then “naturists” – flap your flappies!
