It would actually be more accurate to say that science is the way we distinguish thing which are actually true from things we would like to be true. People naturally see patterns in random information, so it’s important to filter out the observer effect.

Science is our most reliable view of reality, Todd. There are mountains and mountains of evidence in favor of evolution. Evolution is no more “dogma” than the Theory of Gravity.

just a word to the nitpicker, the biblethumpers say they don’t “believe” in evoloution because it conflicts with genesis… if your entire religion is based on faith in something involving only stories and parabels without fact, what makes you think actual facts would dissuade them?

It’s like trying to talk a 3 year old out of believing in the tooth fairy. “if mommy says she’s real and i still get a quarter for my tooth, then she’s gotta be real” becomes “If the church says genesis is real and the bible agrees, then it’s gotta be real”

Religion is the refuge of thousands of years of 3 year olds who never grew up.

I bookmarked your site the first time I visted and have enjoyed it ever since. A small nit to pick: Evolution is not something to “believe” or to “believe in” as though it were a matter of faith. Rather it is to be accepted on the strength of evidence. [/nitpick].
