God punishes himself for our sins to show the absurdity of sacrifice - because no sacrifice can ever satisfy God to forgive sins. Once you believe that, then you can also see the absurdity of making deals with God (If you help me do this, then I will do etc.). God doesn't want sacrifices, only unconditional love.
