New King James, New International & New American Standard all say “gives birth prematurely”. And they’re all New, so they must be right. The (Old) King James has “fruit depart from her” (what, she lost her mango?) which sounds a bit more miscarriagey.

The Message & Contemporary English versions both go with “miscarries”. New Century sits on the fence with “causing the baby to come out”. The English Standard version has “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm…” That one sounds like the kids have come to the door to see what’s going on.

My point in all this? …I don’t know. I kind of lost track. I certainly didn’t end up in the same place I started.

How the hell are you supposed to maintain any kind of argument based on this document?
