At least, that's how I took it. And it's important to recognize that religions aren't monolithic, either. One problem in the States is that people just refer to 'Muslims.' They completely fail to take into account that Iranians, Moroccans and everyone in between has a different culture and in many cases distinct languages as well. Today we only hear about homogenised "Islamic culture" and about "The Muslims" as if they were a different species. What happened?
